AUTHORS INTERVIEW
The main character of the novel Too Young To Die is a detective, Mike Heaton, who recalls typical characters in Hollywood films and iconic protagonists of old detective stories on the big screen. What are the real aspirations that influenced the creation of Mike Heaton?
Snowdon: I had an idea for a detective story, and I decided to turn it into a novel. In creating Heaton, I decided to create a character that would make an interesting detective character; the kind of detective character that would appeal to people who like detective stories. He had to be interesting, intelligent and tough, and at the same time, likeable. So Private Investigator, Mike Heaton was created.
How would you imagine a film taken from your book?
Snowdon: That would be fantastic. I wrote it with the intention of it being made into a film, one day. And you never know, one of these days, it might come to pass.
What is writing to you, and what does being a writer mean? How did it change you?
Snowdon: Writing to me is a hobby. I thoroughly enjoy it. And the prize is seeing the end result which is the published book.
As far as I’m concerned, a writer is someone who enjoys writing. If you constantly get the urge to write, and you enjoy writing, then you’re a writer.
Being a writer hasn’t changed me. I’m still the same person I was over 20 years ago when I first started writing.
What has shaped you as a writer?
Snowdon: Personal experience acquired by meeting a variety of people, travelling and keeping abreast of the latest developments.
